The T.I.N. Man

The T.I.N. Man

Carl Newsom was born In Chicago Illinois, 1 of 5 children (2 boys and 3 girls). Mr. Newsom lost his parents at the age of three. Carl was raised by his grandmother Joyce Taylor and his aunts Ann Prendergast, Verttie Huggins and many more

At an early age Carl knew he had work to do. Carls grandmother kept him in Holly Spring Baptist Church; there he learned the importance of being covered by the blood Jesus

Growing up in Chicago was not an easy thing for Carl. He started polishing shoes in the pool hall at 13. During that time, he was arrested after the Martin Luther King riot for curfew violations with several other people. Carl spent 2 hours in jail which is where he learned he needed to get on the right path

Motown had influenced Carl to start singing. On the Westside of Chicago, groups were singing on every corner and at every mail boxes. Carl was teased by his friends because he couldnt hold a note

After moving to the Southside, Carl attended South Shore High school where he played basketball. In high school, Carl took a drama class, and it was there where he sung a Stevie Wonder song called, You & I. Everyone thought Carl did a great job

In 1973 after graduating from South Shore High school, his aunt sent him away to attend Clark Atlanta University College. In college, he wanted to play tennis but his coach, Coach Epps put him on the basketball team for a short period of time

After college Carl started singing out in the city. People started calling him Jeffrey Osborne because of his voice style. Carl was influenced by Peabo Bryson, Earth Wind and Fire, The S.O.S. Band, P. Funk, John P. Kee and others in the music industry

After years of failed record deals, he was very discouraged and fell into a downward spin. He later moved to Minneapolis MN, and then to Saint Paul MN. There he sung with R. Factor. Carl was on record with Paul Johnson the Bass Player for the Sounds of Blackness. Later Carl joined The Voices of Praises at Progressive Baptist Church in Saint Paul MN where the pastor was Dr. Earl Miller

Fred and JD steele Of the Steele Singers always included Carl in numerous events such as the Gospel at Colonus. The weather was too cold in the twin cities so Carl moved back to Atlanta, GA in 2001. While on the road with Curtis Mayfield, Carl met a beautiful women named Carolyn, whom he married. Carl and Miss Carolyn went their separate ways after 12 years of marriage and 30 years of friendship. While they were together they had 2 beautiful kids, Justin Jones whom is a motivational speaker and a daughter Corinthia Hamilton who is serving her country in the U.S. Army. Singing was not what he wanted to do anymore, so he became the best handyman you could ever want. Carl was slowly getting back in the music field and he started singing in Sandtown Baptist Church where Rev Robert E. Wilson served as Pastor

Mr. Newsom was ill for several years, but he is back on the move giving his singing career all he can along with his friends Terressa Johnson, Terrell Tolbert and Mr. Robert Scott Jr. of the Faithful Word Broadcast

Carl also was recording off and on with Carlos Glover a producer. Miss Theresa Hightower called Carl to come sing in her choir where he is at peace in his music life and as God heals his mind and body
